Educational situation modern Russia

It is well known fact, that humanist professions are very profitable today. Since childhood a lot of young people believe this work to be very attractive. With such an opinion they are educated in their families, go to school, to a institute and finally they begin bringing up their own children that way. Blind alley.
Why is it so? What do make people think that engineering sciences have lost their popularity?
There are several motives.
firstly modern machinery reached such a high extent of progress that the majority of people is capable of using it without having specialized technical education. So there is no point for further diffusion of technical knowledge. Humanits application starts dominating in all fields of life.
Secondly it is an actual fact that we exist in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They like to depict everything and use things, but not to make something by themselves. Naturally this phenomenon does not affect positively on dissemination of engineering education. People are simply not interested in it.
Thirdly the resource base has got such a level of devastation that we often have no place for practice after learning the theory.
at last a very important thing is the policy of the state. What professions does it suppose as called-for nowadays? We can easily get to know it by analyzing our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what professions do they promote today? It is easy to prove that they are full of humanist images. Mass-media present us easy way of life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a result?
Lack of experienced workers in the engineering sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a simple jointer planer. This will cause a dangerous situation when we will be lacking very simple things which are very important for our comfortable way of living.
Besides that our education system is totally ruined. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no qualified lecturers able to train adequate personnel working in technical spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our state do in order to improve the state? It seems to me that there are several actions to be taken. First of all our state should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs perspectives. Then our country should apply efforts in order to promote technical specialities in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to preserve technical professions is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
